Town Government: Treasurer
The Treasurer’s primary responsibility is managing, safeguarding, investing and disbursing town funds and advising town officials on matters of finance.
The Treasurer functions as the cash manager of all of the town’s funds. The Treasurer is responsible for the deposit, investment and disbursement of funds and can issue debt on behalf of the town of Blandford. The Treasurer also processes the payroll and related forms and filings.
The Treasurer is also responsible for the collection of outstanding real estate tax accounts transferred from the Collector’s Office after a lien has been recorded on the property at the Hampden County Registry of Deeds. These are referred to as Tax Title accounts.
The Treasurer’s responsibilities are regulated by various statutes of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts found in Chapters 59 and 60 of the General Laws. The Treasurer’s Office prepares and files Federal and State payroll tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.
